Marat Yusim came to the United State thirty years ago from the former Soviet Union as an already established actor, director and teacher. Upon his arrival, he began teaching directing at the Sonia Moore Studio of the Theatre. In 1980 he created the Moscow Directors Theatre Studio of NY and directed over ten productions with that company. Having taught acting for over twenty years at the F. H. LaGuardia High School of the Music and Art and the Performing Arts in New York City, many of Mr. Yusim’s former students are now successful artists in film, television and theatre. In 2001 Mr. Yusim brought to life the unique opportunity for American students of acting to study at the Moscow Art Theatre School, where he was a resident over thirty years ago. For the first time, Americans were enrolled at the legendary cradle of the Stanislavsky System for the full, four-year course of study. Marat Yusim is now establishing a school of acting and directing in New York City which will serve as the ongoing gateway for American students to study at Moscow’s famed conservatories.
